Click New Round to begin training.
On each question, the app will show you (and optionally announce) the key for the question and then
play an orientation chord progression to establish a key center.
You will then hear a short melody and the on-screen keyboard will display the maximum range it could be in.
You answer the question by figuring out the melody and entering it on either the scale degree buttons
(numbered relative to the root or optionally showing solfege names) or on the piano keyboard
by either clicking the on-screen keyboard or playing a connected MIDI keyboard.
Using scale degrees allows you to focus only on hearing the notes relative to the root. Using the
keyboard is harder, but also helps you build your knowledge of keys and your ability to transpose quickly.
When you get a question wrong, you will see the key/button flash red, and a non-tonal noise will play.
When you have selected all the correct notes, the question is done. It is considered correct if you did
not play any incorrect notes.
To choose the possible pitches, keys, and intervals between pitches for the melodies, open the Pitches, Keys, and Intervals tabs.
The settings tab contains all other options, including question length, tempo, number of questions, the range,
and whether the system plays noises on incorrect notes, announces the key aurally, advances automatically
to the next question on answers, MIDI control settings, global transpose, and many more.
It is worth reading the descriptions of the settings
as the combination of settings makes it possible to make many different exercises. If you have a membership,
all settings can be saved to your exercise library.
